Centenarian Mataro

The Mataro was planted in 1912 as dry-grown bush vine. Mataro is one of most resilient Variety that adopt Barossa Valley floor very well.

In 2019, we experienced a dry and frosty spring. The drought and frost have severe impact to our Mataro. Also, in 2017 we changed vineyard management from conventional to organic practice. grass and weed became big competitors against Mataro ; However, we started to see new growth coming back from it roots in the following year. In 2022, we finally picked some good bunches of Mataro. Because of very small yield we decided to use our basket press and kept the best part of the juice. The centenarian Mataro will be aged in French Barrels for the next two years. We cannot wait to see how it turns out.
